Interior and upper half are glazed with one of my new glazes. This one is a traditional Japanese glaze called tenmoku. A high percentage of red iron oxide gives it a deep coffee color, breaking to reddish where thin, and transparent where the soda vapor hits. The deep orange shade of the lower half is acheived with a flashing slip, that absorbs the soda to create an inviting surface. Leadfree, foodsafe, dishwasher and microwave safe. Can you spot the signature stamp?
Everybody has a different idea about the perfect size coffee mug, but 12 ounces is it for me: enough coffee to satisfy, not so much that it gets cold before you finish it.
